Officer's undress overalls worn by Lieutenant Robert Graham Polhill, 95th (Derbyshire) Regiment of Foot, 1851 circa. Wool cloth and brown composition buttons. The legs of the overalls are cut straight and without creases. While the 'Dress Regulations' of 1846 state that a scarlet stripe was to be worn on the outside leg, it was quite common for undress trousers to be made without the stripe. Polhill joined the 95th in June 1848 and was promoted lieutenant in April 1852. He fell at the Battle of the Alma in 1854 during the Crimean War (1854-1856).
