The Art of Germany, 2010

Three-part series for BBC 2 in which Andrew Graham-Dixon explores German art, examining the country's unique national style and 500-year cultural legacy. 

The German Renaissance had a more notable Gothic visual style than the rest of Europe.  One of the greatest religious artists in Germany was Matthias Grunewald who produced the intensly expressive The Isenheim Altarpiece (1510-15) . 

Other German artists featured in this series include the 19th-century German Romantic landscape painter Caspar David Friedrich and the German Expressionists of the 20th century, Franz Marc and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
