Now Representing: Elizabeth Blackadder

28 May 2015 - Bridgeman Images is delighted to be representing one of this country’s most distinguished artists, Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, DBE, RA, RSA

One of Scotland’s most popular artists, Dame Elizabeth Blackadder (b.1931) is celebrated for her paintings, watercolours and drawings, particularly of plants and animals.

The reproduction and copyright clearance of this artist will be handled by Bridgeman Artists’ Copyright Service (BACS).  Exceptional quality high resolution digital photography of Elizabeth Blackadder's artwork spanning her entire career is now available for licensing. Images will be available for a wide range of products and editorial use.
 

Elizabeth Blackadder's Artist's Resale Rights will also be managed by the Artists' Collecting Society.

A great lover of nature and animals, Dame Elizabeth is perhaps best known for her detailed yet lyrical watercolours of flowers. Many new images by the artist have been supplied by her gallery, The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.

 

Bridgeman Artists' Copyright Service

Elizabeth Blackadder joins a distinguished list of artists and artists’ estates to have appointed the Bridgeman Artists’ Copyright Service (BACS) including Lucian Freud, Stanley Spencer and her late husband, the Scottish painter John Houston.  Even if the work of art is not held by Bridgeman, copyright can still be cleared.

Artist Biography

Elizabeth Violet Blackadder, RSA, RA, RGI, RWEA, RWS, DBE (b. 1931)

Born in Falkirk in 1931, Elizabeth Blackadder studied at Edinburgh College of Art in the 1950s, when she became closely acquainted with notable Scottish artists such as William Gillies and Anne Redpath. In 1956 Dame Elizabeth married the Scottish painter John Houston. She lectured at Edinburgh College of Art while regularly exhibiting her work internationally. Elizabeth Blackadder has received many awards, including the Guthrie Award, Royal Scottish Academy (1962) and the Pimms Award for Work on Paper (Royal Academy, 1983). She is the first woman to be elected to both the Royal Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy. In 2001, she was appointed Her Majesty's Painter and Limner in Scotland

Elizabeth Blackadder lives and works in Edinburgh. Public and private collections holding her work include The Tate Gallery, The Scottish National Museum of Modern Art in Edinburgh and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
