Gobelet litron, early 19th century (soft paste porcelain, dark blue ground and gilded decoration)

Sèvres soft-paste porcelain pair of cups and saucers. Dark blue ground overlaid with a semée of broadly spaced gold pastilles, forming a pattern of alternating groups of four and single dots. The cups are painted in polychrome in an oval reserve with on one, Titian’s portrait of François I and on the other, Leonardo da Vinci’s portrait of La Belle Ferronnière. The circular reserves of the corresponding saucers are painted with single putti and attributes. The cylindrical cups are each fitted with a gilded arched handle, decorated on its outer, upper surface with an acanthus leaf in faint relief.
