A man views destroyed and muddy coffins in the tomb of the Wettins local nobility inside the Klosterkirche church in the east German city of Dresden August 21, 2002. The worst floods on record drove tens of thousands from their homes across eastern Germany, causing a state of emergency to be declared across the region. Around 20,000 people were primed to leave their houses in the northern state of Lower Saxony, while in the rural northeast thousands of emercency workers continued to reinforce dykes as the high point of the floodwaters passed.
