Two unidentified economic police investigators search one of Bulgaria's biggest CD plants, Balkanton, in Sofia, March 21. Bulgaria, strongly criticised by Western countries on copyright abuse, is considered second only to China in the export of pirate CD's, producing an estimated 15 million discs a year. EU External Affairs commissioner Hans van den Broek, who visited Sofia earlier this week, urged Bulgaria take tougher measures to protect intellectual property rights, singling out CD piracy which he said had cost the recording industry in Europe some $100 million.
