Rattrays Sikhs were one of the most distinguished units of the Bengal Army. This photograph depicts their scarlet uniform with the white facings adopted in 1885; trousers were blue with red stripes and the turbans composed of a red kullah around which was wrapped a blue and white pagri or lungi. On the front of the pugri can been seen the regimental symbol, the Sikh chakram (throwing quoit). The escort of sepoys are armed with Martini-Henry Mark IV rifles.
