Louis Joine, head of the United Nations working group which inspected arbitrary detention centres in Australia, speaks at a media conference in Sydney June 6, 2002. Joinet, whose team inspected five of the six Australian centres, described conditions in the remote Woomera camp in South Australia, the scene of hunger strikes, escapes and incidents of self harm, as 'dramatic'.
