Image description

Portrait of Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange and Count of Nassau (1584-1647), son of William the Silent, nearly three-quarter-length, facing the spectator, in armour with a large lace collar, holding a baton in his right hand. Engraved by P. Pontius and Woumans. From a set of grisaille portraits by Van Dyck of artists and distinguished persons, for engravers to work from. The panels, with the exception of M.188, are all in identical English 18th Century carved and gilded Palladian frames, with tongue-and-leaf outer edge and foliate sight edge.
