Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi speaks to reporters about Beijing's decision to allow five North Koreans, who were dragged from a Japanese consulate, to leave China, at the foreign ministry in Tokyo May 22, 2002. The five left Beijing earlier in the day headed via the Philippines for asylum in South Korea, ending a bitter two-week feud between Beijing and Tokyo. Kawaguchi said China's decision showed consideration toward Japan, and that while the two countries still held differing views of what happened in the incident, Tokyo wanted to resolve such differences in a calm manner.
