Lord Saye and Sele before Jack Cade, 1450. On the rising of the men of Kent in 1450, Jack Cade, an adventurer who had settled in Kent, led them from Blackheath to Southwark. In London they were favourably received by some of the citizens until they commenced to pillage. After capturing and executing Baron Saye and Sele and also the sheriff of Kent, the insurgents retired to Southwark. Illustration for Hutchinson's History of the Nations (Hutchinson, c.1920).
