Josep Llorens Artigas

Spanish ceramicist, 1892-1980

Artigas trained in Barcelona before working in Paris (1924-1941) where he made handsomely designed but undecorated stoneware. His later decorated wares were often works of collaboration with painters such as Raoul Dufy and, perhaps most notably, Joan Mir363. His work with Mir363 began after his 1941 return to Spain (he settled in Gallifa, near Barcelona) and included monumental ceramics such as that made for the UNESCO building in Paris (1958) and the Barcelona airport (1971).
