Knight mentions that Sedgfield was 'connected with' the London Stereoscopic Co. during the 1850s. In 1858 Sedgfield moved to Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and set up a studio and photographic printing facilities. In the early 1860s Sedgfield photographed Salisbury Cathedral and the Isle of Wight. In the 1860s Sedgfield moved his operation to Norbiton, Kingston-on-Thames where he produced cartes-de-visite. Sedgfield practiced as a professional portrait photographer until 1890.
