Russian enameler, 1878-1936

Studied drawing at the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, took painting lessons at Princess Maria Tenisheva's private art school from Il'ya Repin. Also attended the Abramtsevo Ceramic Studio in Moscow 1904-1906, created cartoons for revolutionary journals, and was considered the foremost book illustrator of pre-revolutionary Russia. He directed a school for decorative enamel at Rostov-Yaroslovsky 1913-1918, and was head of the State Porcelain Factory during two separate periods.
