Francois d'Aix de La Chaise (engraving)

Francois d'Aix de La Chaise, (1624-1709) better known as Père La Chaise; Jesuit priest and confessor for 34 years to King Louis XIV from 1685 until shortly before his death in 1709; Père la Chaise spent a lot of time at the Jesuit house on the outskirts of Paris in an area then called Mont-Louis and Louis, wishing to have constant and immediate access to his confessor, gave him his own home, installing him in a property of the king nearby; by 1804 the 44 hectares were the property of the Ville de Paris and the cemetery of Père -Lachaise opened, taking its name from Père La Chaise and becoming the most famous Parisian cemetery; the engraving probably shows Père la Chaise in front of his home at Mont-Louis;
