Image description

Whole artwork view. On a white background, dark grey headline and below a picture and a table of contents, in black with red underlines; the photo, taken by Igor Kazus in 1989, represents the high voltage pylons at the Oka river; the two towers, made of steel, were projected by the Russian engineer Vladimir Grigorevic Suchov, who invented and patented their particular hyperbolic structure, replicated for all of the five segment of the tower; Suchov, author of an analogue project for the Shabolovka radio broadcasting tower in Moscow, followed the building operations of the two pylons personally; both the towers are made by five hyperbolic sections connected one to another via their circular elements at the summit and at the base; the smaller element was built within the bigger one, with the telescope technique, then lifted by cranes and joint to it; the whole structure of both the towers, 128 meters tall, is incredibly light in relation to their size.
