McTear, whose husband Alf died of lung cancer in 1993, will on Tuesday bring the first case for damages against the tobacco industry in the UK when she takes action against one of the world's biggest tobacco companies, Imperial Tobacco. Alf McTear took action against Imperial Tobacco in 1993, arguing that he had not been warned about the dangers of smoking. He died, aged 48, a week after giving evidence.
