Male and female Conservative Jews mix (in foreground) as prayers are said at dawn May 31 for Shavuot at the Wailing Wall plaza as tens of thousands of Jews gather to mark the Jewish holiday commemorating the giving of the Torah (Jewish Bible) to the Israelites at Sinai. Israeli Border Police (center) try to cordon off the conservative Jews from the many more thousands of ultra-orthodox Jews who jam the plaza. The ultra-orthodox Jews reject both Conservative and Reform Judaism and, among other things, do not believe men and women should pray together.
