Tribute Money (Tributo), by Masaccio, 1425-1427, 15th Century, fresco, 255 x 598 cm
Whole artwork view. The fresco, placed in the upper part of the left wall, collects in an only scene three moments of an episode from Matthew's Vangel, that is, the Payment of the Tribute at the antrance of the city of Cafarnao; in the middle si depicted Jesus, surrounded by the Apostles, who points a water mirror to Jesus, while a collector, faced backwards, holds out his open hand in order to earn his taxes; on the left, Saint Peter grabs a fish, in which mouth will find a silver coin; on the right, the Saint is depicted while paying taxes to the collector; in the frame is also included a part of the fresco which decorates the inferior part
