Image description

Fake battle with real wounded. Scenes from the Tempest, an Italian-Yugoslavian co-production film based on Pushkin's Pugaciov's Story of the Uprising, were being filmed near Belgrade. Thousands of Yugoslav soldiers participated in the action in the costumes of the soldiers of Catherine II and the rebel Cossacks and, for the most violent episodes, Italian acrobats brought from Rome. During the reconstruction of a battle framework, four of them suffered more or less serious injuries; one, Lanfranco Ciacarelli, who had a broken leg, was transported to Rome. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 22 June 1958.
