An Iranian woman wearing the traditional head-to-toe black chador looks at newspaper headlines in central Tehran announcing the fall of Baghdad on April 10, 2003. Iranians are glad to see the demise of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's government. The two countries fought a brutal eight-year war in the 1980s during which hundreds of thousands were killed and Iraq used chemical weapons against Iranian troops. But Iran's clerical leaders have so far remained silent over the recent events in Baghdad. Iran officially opposed the war in its western neighbour but pledged to stay out of the conflict.
