The top candidates in Peru's unpredictable April 8 election wrapped up campaigning on Thursday but for some voters, their minds were already made up. A survey by pollsters Datum found 81 percent of respondents considered Alejandro Toledo, favorite to become Peru's next president, the ugliest contender - although 80 percent said the economist of Andean Indian origins was most physically representative of Peruvians. Leftist ex-President Alan Garcia, a tall, charismatic orator fond of singing, was the smartest and best-looking for 34 percent and 50 percent of respondents respectively. JMG/JP
