A DICAPRIO IMPERSONATOR COMMITS A FAKE SUICIDE IN BANGKOK, 2000-03-07 (photo)

A protester impersonating American film star Leonardo DiCaprio displays red material representing his guts after committing a mock Japaneses-style ritual suicide outside the March 7 Thai premier of the movie "The Beach" at a Bagkok cinema. A protest group demonstrated outside the cinema on the first day of the film's release, telling movie-goers that "The Beach", film on an idyllic southern Thai beach, has destroyed the local environment and ecology. The mock suicide was in mock shame by DiCaprio for the "grievous ecological crime committed in the making of the film. JIR/DL
