AFGHAN REFUGEE ABDUL HADI ARRIVES FROM KANDAHAR IN QUETTA, 2001-10-23 (photo)

ATTENTION EDITORS 1 OF 12 - Afghan refugee Abdul Hadi, 50, (L) packs his belongings in a pick up truck on his arrival from Kandahar at Quetta's bus depot October 23, 2001. Abdul spent 6 days travelling to the Balochistan capital Quetta, near the Chaman border with Afghanistan. He took buses and hitched rides with cars on the road from Kandahar, a Taliban stronghold in eastern Afghanistan, which he said is now empty of people following weeks of US bombing. Once at the bus station in Quetta, Abdul picked up his few belongings and made his way to his cousin's home in the Akhrotabad refugee camp on the outskirts of the city. He then settled in a 3-room, 800 Rupee a month mud house opposite.
