Apr. 04, 1954 - SURVIVING TRAINING SCHOOL AT GOSPORT. INTERIOR OF INFLATABLE LIFE-RAFT.. Exercises are being carried out at the Survival Training School, H.M.S. Sikin R.N. Air Station at Gosport to demonstrate the methods of rescue and survival of crashed airmen and shipwrecked seaman. One of the items demonstrated is a 20 man inflatable life-raft rather like a tented dinghy. A container of compressed carbon-dioxide inflates the dinghy in ten seconds. A cover of rubberised fabric is then erected on a 54 inch mast and buttoned down to afford protection against exposure. The dinghy is complete with everything needed for survival in the roughest weather. Keystone Photo Shows: - Interior of a 20 man inflatable life-raft fitted with its tent covering, when packed it weighs 215 lbs and is five feet in length and is for use with H.M. and Merchant vessels.. Seen at the Survival Station - Gosport
