Apr. 30, 1953 -” Emanato, The Market Woman”.. Native Statue For Western Nigerian City: Benin City Native Authority, Western Nigeria, at the suggestion of the Oba Of Benin, has commissioned a statue of Emanato, a Beni market woman of the 15th. century, revered by the Bini people for the humanitarian work and love of children. It is to be erected over her grev ~ near the market place in Benin. The sculptor is Mr. John Danford, who is the British Council's Regional Director in the Western Province of Nigeria. He is working on the statue which is 6 ft. tall - in a Chelsea studio. It is to be cast in bronze.
