Baird 'Everyman' television receiver, c 1940s. This table model receiver in walnut casing has a nine-inch screen. After the end of World War II, television broadcasts resumed in Britain on 8 June 1946, and during the post-war period there was rapid expansion in the television industry. Production technology had improved, making sets cheaper to buy. However, even one of the cheaper models still cost around four weeks' wages.
