Chitral Relief camp, Malakand, 1915. North-west frontier. There was Siege of Malakand from 26 July to 2 August 1897 - the British faced a force of Pashtun tribesmen whose tribal lands had been bisected by the Durand Line - the border between Afghanistan and British India drawn up at the end of the Anglo-Afghan wars. This division of Pashtun lands was very upsetting for the Pashtun. Among the relief force dispatched from the south to help break the sieg, was second lieutenant Winston Churchill/
