Debut de l'aviation : Maurice Farman (1878-1964) dans son avion biplan equipe d'un moteur Renault pendant la course "Voyage de Bac a Chartres", vers 1910. Lithographie de Marguerite Montaut (Gamy). Maurice Farman in his biplane, during the Chartres airplane race, c 1910. One of six coloured lithographs by Gamy published by Malibeau & Co, Paris, 1909-1911. It shows Farman (1878-1964) in an aeroplane fitted with a Renault motor, on the 'Voyage de Bac a Chartres'. Farman and his brother Henri Farman (1874-1958) were pioneer aviators and aircraft manufacturers, together they built and made the first flight in a Voisin biplane. Ernest Montaut (1879-1909) and his wife, Marguerite (who Gamy is possibly a pseudonym for), were the first artists to capture the Heroic Age of aviation and motor racing. The Gamy-Montaut prints were produced by the pochoir process, in which the outlines for each image were drawn onto lithographic stones, printed and hand-coloured. ©SSPL/Science Museum
