ELIAN GONZALEZ RECEIVES GIFT FROM WOMAN AT MIAMI HOME, 2000-01-23 (photo)

With his great uncle Lazaro Gonzalez by his side, Cuban boy Elian Gonzalez plays with a gift he received from a supporter January 23 outside his great uncle's home. The boy's paternal and maternal grandmothers from his hometown of Cardenas, Cuba, met with U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno in Washington D.C. January 22 hoping to return to the communist-ruled island with their grandson. Elian is one of three survivors of an ill-fated smuggling operation where the six-year-old's mother Elisabet Broton and 10 others drowned when their boat capsized last November 25 as they attempted to reach the U.S. The boy has been Miami for 59 days.
