Holiday crowds at Paddington Station, London, 21 August 1926. Holidaymakers boarding the Torbay Limited. The train travelled to Torquay in Devon. By the 1920s more and more people were beginning to take holidays, rather than just taking a day trip because they were able to get paid holidays from work. People visited the countryside in Wales, Scotland or the north of England, or the coast. The railways put on special excursion or holiday tickets at cheap prices for holiday makers.
