INVESTIGATORS SEARCH MARINE OSPREY WRECKAGE IN ARIZONA, 2000-04-09 (photo)

Investigators search through the wreckage of this U.S. Marine Corps Osprey aircraft on the landing strip at Avra Valley Regional Airport in Marana, Arizona April 9. The aircraft crashed at approximately 8:15 p.m. April 8 as it was landing during a training mission, killing the 19 Marine personel on board. A second Osprey aircraft on the same mission landed safely. Witness Susan Cross, of Marana, was driving home from Tucson with her son, and saw the plane pass over the road and then explode on the ground. "The whole sky lit up like an orange fireball after it hit the ground," Cross said. The aircraft was on a training mission from a Marine base in Yuma, Arizona. JT
