Image description

A keeper at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo places a 12-hour-old Griffon vulture chick into a false egg before it is left in the nest of foster parents in the Birds of Prey exhibit March 22. The chick, named for local basketball star Kenny Williams, was hatched in an incubator as part of an international program to reintroduce the birds, which face extinction in the region, into the wild. Only some 300 Griffons, comprising about 70 mating pairs, remain in the wild down from thousands in the 1940's. DPS
