Three Mexican children play on a boat October 18 as hundreds of yachts and ships stay anchored in the resort beach of Acapulco, in the southern state of Guerrero. Twin hurricanes lurked menacingly off Mexico's Pacific coast Sunday; hurricane Madeline creeping toward land and Category Two hurricane Lester veering slightly away after a narrow miss with the crowded coastline. Forecasters said Madeline would likely strengthen further early Sunday and cross the Maria Islands, some 123 miles south of Mazatlan, a large port and tourist city. The storm was not expected to make landfall until late October 19 or 20. HR/AA
