MEXICAN DEMETRIO HERRERA PAINTS WITH HIS MOUTH, 1998-07-29 (photo)

Demetrio Herrera Olivares, who is a member of the Association of Painters Without Hands, holds his brush in his mouth as he paints a landscape in his Mexico City home July 28. Demetrio is a member of a handicapped artists' association who do not have the use of their hands. The association exists in 40 countries and is run by the artists themselves, who, in exchange for a regular wage, paint pictures which are then used for Christmas cards and calendars. Demetrio, who is one of the founding members of the association, earns a good living from the sale of his paintings. AW/GB
