NEW ONE THOUSAND HONG KONG DOLLAR BANKNOTE IS INTRODUCED IN HONG KONG, 2001-06-19 (photo)

Tony Latter, deputy chief executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), introduces the new $1,000 Hong Kong dollars banknote issued by the Bank of China (BOC) in Hong Kong June 19, 2001. The HKMA, BOC and Standard Chartered Bank announced on Tuesday the launch of enhanced HK$1,000 banknotes with three additional security features, which includes a clearly visible holographic windowed thread accross the middle of the banknote, to ensure high and consistent standards of banknote security in the territory. The security features were incorporated into the HSBC $1,000 note last December. BY/CP
