Oslo 19531222 The Baldishol rug is one of the very few picture blankets in teasing technique preserved in Europe from the 1100s, and the only one of its kind in the Nordic countries. The blanket came for the day when Baldishol Old Church at Nes in Hedmark was demolished in 1879. The Baldishhol carpet has clear Romanesque styles. The motif is, after all, judging monthly pictures, at April symbolized with a bearded man in a long ridge next to a tree with birds, May by a rider in armor. The figures are located under each flat -printed round arch with partially unreadable monthly names as inscriptions. Motually and stylishly, the canopy has parallels on both domestic and foreign grounds. It may be woven in Norway, but also in a smaller central European workshop for example in France or England.
