Poverty, Stallarholmen, Sweden, 1937 (b/w photo)

Poverty in the 1930s. A por man has found shelter above the warm space above a brick mill and the oven where the bricks are being burnt. The man uses the heat from a crack in it where it is warm enough to cook a meal and make pancakes. Why this man has found himself in this situation is not known but at this time the great depression has begun and spread worldwide leaving many people pennyless. The great depression started in 1929 after a major fall in stock prices and lasted until the late 1930s and was the longest, deepest and most widespread depression of the 20th century.
