While literary critics turn up their noses, her readers love them: Pilcher?s romantic novels about good people in rural idyll have been sold more than 60 million times all over the world, have been translated into more than 15 languages and made her one of the most successful contemporary writers. Although Pilcher was born in the South of England and lives in Scotland, most of her fans are Germans. The mother of literary soap-operas celebrates her 85th anniversary on 22 September 2009.
