SOUTH KOREAN KCTU MEMBERS CHANT AT MEETING IN SEOUL, 1999-02-24 (photo)

South Korean members of the hardline Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) demand an end to job losses prior to a meeting of KCTU delegates in Seoul February 24. The meeting was held to gain broad KCTU executive committee approval after the group's central committee voted to withdraw from the three-way labour, business and government tripartite talks on Tuesday. A KCTU spokesman said the government has failed to come up with adequate measures to deal with unemployment and that it would seek a more "realistic way" to press its demand to stop corporate restructuring which is creating massive unemployment.
