The students lean over the calf with their veterinary instruments and prepare to begin the dissection. This photograph could be posed - one of the students is wearing a ring and neither wear gloves. In the background, the walls are lined with blackboards covered in anatomical drawings from a previous lesson. The Veterinary College in London was founded in 1791, marking the establishment of the veterinary profession in England. The college began life as a horse infirmary.
