The Macknight Room, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston (photo)

As the only room in the Museum to be named after a contemporary artist, this space pays tribute to the work of Dodge Macknight, whose watercolors line its walls. Before 1915 this room served as an apartment for Isabella Stewart Gardner’s guests—including John Singer Sargent, Okakura Kakuzo, and Matthew Stewart Prichard. It later became Isabella’s private reception room. Beyond the works of Dodge MacKnight, this gallery largely devoted to the display of works by Gardner’s close friends and associates. It also contains a selection of her important book collection.
