Warren Hastings (1732-1818) English statesman and first de facto Governor-General of India 1773-85. In 1787, he was accused of corruption and impeached. The prosecution was lead by MPs including Edmund Burke, encouraged by Sir Philip Francis, whom Hastings had wounded during a duel in India, Charles James Fox and Richard Brinsley Sheridan. Burke took 2 days to read the 20 counts. After a 7 year trial, Hastings was acquitted. After Edward Dayes, print by Robert Pollard and Francis Jukes.
