Image description

after Caspar Netscher (Heidelberg 1639 – The Hague 1684). Oil painting on canvas, Princesses Albertina Agnes (1634 - 96) and Henrietta Catherine (1637-1708) of Orange-Nassau, after Caspar Netscher (Heidelberg 1639 – The Hague 1684), late 17th century. The signed original painting is in the Royal Dutch Archives, The Hague, bought at Sotheby's, Monaco, 26th October 1981, lot 591. The picture was formerly thought to be of Princesses Mary and Anne. They wear elaborately-embroidered dresses; seated on a terrace; at the left a fountain with a putto astride a lion to which one of the women is gesturing. One holds an orange - in reference to the House of Orange; both were daughters of Frederick Henry of Orange and Amalia van Solms. Erddig, Wrexham (Accredited Museum)
