Image description

Picture shows: Nikolas Ploumbidis is led into court by a squad of gendarmes - at the start of his trail in Athenes Spy-ring Broken-up: What promises to be the most sensational post war triple- hasted in Greece- the trial of Nikolas Ploumbidis head of the Greek communist underground organization, who was arrested in Athens a new months ago - during the round up a spy-network- with the assistance of a helicopter of the US Navy Sixth Fleet which was visiting Greece at the time- and -pin-pointed the location of a Communist transmitter. The man operating the transmitter committed suicide- but useful documents etc.. fell into the hands of the authorities. When Communist leaders fled behind their on curtain in 1946 - Nikolas Ploumbidis stayed, and although suffering from tuberculosis lived under assumed names at 12 different addresses. Soon after his arrest - he was disowned by Greek communist party leaders in exile who broadcast from Moscow- stating that he was a “stool-pigeon on the payroll of the Monaco-Fascist Greek Police.”
