Risorgimento: Cartoon on the Treaty of Turin (Trattato di Torino) of 24/03/1860, as a consequence of the July 1858 Plombieres Agreements, which formalized the annexation of the Duchy of Savoy and the Count of Nice to France: on the left Emperor Napoleon III takes away Savoy and Nice from desperate Italy by singing a sentence from Verdi's Rigoletto. On the right Giuseppe Garibaldi gives a baton to an Austrian soldier who looks at the scene at the sight hidden behind a border wall. Illustration of Delfico.
