Regimental pattern dirk, 1881 circa.
The dirk was the traditional sidearm of Highlanders, but also carried by the officers, pipers, and drummers of the Armys Scottish Highland regiments. This example belonged to a member of the 91st (Princess Louises Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment.
The blade is decorated with a crown, cypher, and cats and boars heads. It also includes the regimental motto 'Ne Obliviscaris' which means 'Do Not Forget'. The dirk also has a scabbard that includes a side-knife and fork. It was made by Marshall and Sons of George Street, Edinburgh.
