Municipal Elections in Madrid, 1931. The municipal elections which were held throughout Spain in April 1931 provided the first opportunity of the Spanish people to express its will for eight years. The elections resulted in an overwhelmingly Republican majority and on 14 April the Revolutionary Committee seized the machinery of government.
