Viscount Wolseley', 1892. A photographic portrait of Viscount Joseph Garnet Wolseley (1833-1913), taken by W & D Downey. A British field marshal, Viscount Wolseley served extensively abroad and was instrumental in modernizing the British army. He was made Viscount for his attempt to relieve General Charles G. Gordon (1833-1885) at Khartoum, Sudan. This photograph appears in 'The Cabinet Portrait Gallery' series of celebrity portraits and biographies published in the 1890s.
