Image description

Narbonne Town Hall (Aude, Languedoc, Occitanie), former archbishops' palace. Carved tympanum of the neogothic facade made by Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century. The three ships carrying wine and goods are a reminder of the time when Narbonne was a port, cumulating wine and maritime glory in ancient Rome and the Middle Ages, until the thirteenth century. On the coat of arms in the center, bordered by vine branches, the key symbolizes the gates of the city represented by the Consuls, the archiepiscopal cross represents the seat of the archbishops of the province and the three fleurs-de-lis represent his attachment to the Kingdom of France. The blue color of the coat of arms is that of the Viscounts of Narbonne.
